Salient Features of our curriculum

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)

The MBBS programme at QIU follows an Integrated Hybrid Problem-Based Learning Curriculum. The 5-year MBBS curriculum consists of two contiguous phases: Phase I (Years 1 & 2) and Phase II (Years 3 to 5). 

In Phase I, the emphasis is on basic sciences with early clinical exposure, while Phase II focuses on the clinical sciences integrated with the applied aspects of basic and laboratory sciences. 

Upon successful completion of this training programme, the graduates will acquire sufficient knowledge, developed essential competencies and imbibed the correct professional attitudes to function as an effective primary health care provider. 

  • Accredited by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)
  • Professionally formulated by international experts to incorporate United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) standards, opening the gateway to expedite specialisation opportunities in the USA.

The programme consists of two phases:

  • Phase I (Years 1 and 2): Emphasis on basic sciences and early clinical exposure
  • Phase II (Years 2 to 5): Emphasis on clinical sciences, integrated with applied aspects of basic and laboratory sciences

Our Deputy Dean

Our Deputy Dean, Dr. Ranjith Mehenderkar who is from India, graduated from University of Madras, is also the Head of Microbiology Department. His main area of research was on immunomodulatory properties of traditional medical plants. As an accomplished teacher, trainer, research guide and a mentor, he has achieved sound track record of creative scholastic  achievements over his career span. Having authored books and contributed chapters in books published by international publication houses, he was also honoured with Young Scientist Award in recognitions of his outstanding contributions in Medical Plants Research at the prestigious International Conference on Medicinal Plants & Herbal Products 2012, USA.

He is a devoted teaching professional with distinguished career of over 20 yeaers in teaching Medical Microbiology and driving research projects. He strongly believes in shaping the medical students holistically with career, compassion and in training them to serve as global health care professional

Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim is known in the medical education community having served in many strategic positions for more than 20 years in both the public and private Universities. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from University Malaya and a Master of Science in Public Health obtained from Victoria University of Manchester (UK). 

He has served in the position of Deanship for the last 12 years. He also held various strategic positions including Dean Faculty of Medicine and Deputy Vice Chancellor International and Strategic Planning. He was the Founding Dean, Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences, University Teknologi Mara.

His professional memberships include the Malaysian Medical Council, General British Medical Council, Public Health Specialist Association Malaysia and others. 

Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim has a strong vision for the future of the Faculty and will work to bring the faculty to the next level of excellence as proven with his track record of successful leadership.
